Medical Termination of Pregnancy
What is Medication Termination?
Medication abortion is a safe and effective two-step process for terminating a pregnancy up to 10 weeks. This non-surgical option involves two medications and requires 2-3 appointments to ensure the procedure is completed successfully.
Our Process
First Appointment: Your first appointment includes a comprehensive review of your medical history, a blood draw, and an ultrasound to confirm the pregnancy's gestational age and your eligibility for medication abortion.
If you decide to proceed, you will take the first part of the medication during your first appointment, Mifepristone. Mifepristone works by blocking the hormone progesterone, which is necessary for pregnancy to continue.
Following Day At Home: You will take the second medication, Misoprostol, at home, 24 to 48 hours after taking Mifepristone. Misoprostol induces uterine contractions to expel the pregnancy.
7 Day Follow Up Appointment: You have the option to return to the clinic or access a lab closer to home to complete your seven day bloodwork follow-up. This follow up bloodwork is extremely important to determine the success of the process.
Follow-Up Care : A follow-up appointment is essential to confirm that the abortion is complete and to ensure your well-being. This is completed approximately 3 weeks after your initial appointment.
During this visit, our healthcare providers will perform necessary evaluations to verify that the process has been successful and address any concerns you may have.
